Dope Snow and MONTEC materials: Superior technical performance

To withstand whiteouts, wipeouts, and whipping around the mountain, you need some seriously impressive materials. So that’s all we use. We weave and twist technical performance into our long-lasting Dope and MONTEC gear so you can cruise and charge the hill season after season.

Creating durable and technical fabrics

However you ride, our custom-developed waterproof, breathable materials maximise protection against the elements and minimise environmental impact. It’s all thanks to our 2-layer shells and their three-step construction.

Browsing our latest collections? You’ll notice we refer to this 2-layer construction as SHIELD-TEC for MONTEC and DRY Tech for Dope Snow. 

Measuring waterproofing, breathability, and performance 

Through testing, the industry rates 10,000mm as a ‘good’ level of waterproofing (ISO 811-2018 test) and 10,000g as a ‘good’ level of breathability (JIS L1099-B1) for a fabric. Both MONTEC and Dope Snow’s ratings outperform these baselines, with 15,000mm/15,000g for Dope and 20,000mm/20,000g for MONTEC. Our gear also blows the industry’s water repellency test out of the water (pun fully intended), achieving Grade 5 before washing and Grade 4 after five washes (ISO 9865 Bundesmann test) while the industry expectation is Grade 3-4.

Dope and MONTEC excel in performance across other categories, too, such as abrasion resistance, tear strength, and fabric weight. This means only the toughest fabrics that pass the most demanding standards become part of your gear. 

Ensuring consistency across batches

We test every fabric, colour, and batch, and collect over 25,000 test data points, checking each report before any of our custom-developed fabrics go into production. That way, the first jackets and snow pants off our production line are as high-quality as the last, and every one in between. 

Every bulk fabric produced meets our own strict standards (implemented for the Fall/Winter 2025 collection). Plus, through an NMR test, we check that our recycled polyester really is as high in quality as stated in our suppliers’ paperwork. These thorough checks help us champion consistency over variability so your gear performs for multiple seasons.

Combining performance and responsibility

We combine sustainability and high performance in every step of our fabric process. This is achieved through initiatives such as our Leadership & Sustainability partnership, which helps us compare factories and suppliers, identify gaps, measure progress, and follow up on areas for improvement.

Dope and MONTEC are both bluesign® System Partners, too, and 61% of our suppliers are now bluesign® APPROVED. We constantly strive to increase this percentage while nurturing long-lasting relationships with existing suppliers.
